Self-Love

If you don’t self-love often, you’re seriously missing out.

Sometimes, your anxiety levels reach a point, and sometimes you need an out. Last Thursday was that day for me. I needed an out, and I took it.

TTC isn’t as bad as you think it is, Toronto.

Downtown Toronto is usually that place for me. Getting lost in the rush of it all. Walking around downtown and exploring and seeing and doing. I’ve heard people say to me before:

“How can you even walk in Downtown Toronto? I hate it so much.”

It’s odd, but for me it’s calming. In a way, I’m alone, but not really. Surrounded by dozens, hundreds, maybe even thousands of people that I pass by on my way downtown of all different backgrounds, races, cultures. Different ways of life, different ways of living. It’s my muse.

Self-love for me is typically either one of two things: food and a theatre visit. That night I did both, a trip to Denny’s and a trip to Cineplex. (Neither of which are sponsoring me, by the way.)

I first ventured to Denny’s where I indulged in a custom American Slam made up of sausages, hash browns, scrambled eggs and buttermilk pancakes with a side of orange juice (not pictured). It was as good as it looks, and tasted heavenly. The closest thing to a homecooked meal I’ve had in weeks (living on residence isn’t great, but that’s for another blog).

I also ate at a “table for one,” which I know for some people reading this, is anxiety inducing. But, once you try it, it isn’t so bad. No one is judging you, and honestly? It’s good to just have some time alone in an empty booth to yourself. Don’t knock it ’til you try it.

Ending my evening off with a beautiful, tall, delicious chocolate milkshake. AND they even give you the leftovers from the mixing cup in ANOTHER CUP. How amazing is that?

Later, I ventured to Cineplex and met up with my friend Tabi, and we saw a late screening of Marvel’s newest movie, Black Panther.

Black Panther is one of the absolute best stand-alone Marvel movies, by far. The visuals, acting, set pieces, and really well-fleshed out characters! I loved Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and EVERYONE else in this movie was fantastic.

Overall, my self-love journey last Thursday was a 10/10 adventure, highly recommend, would re-gram, re-tweet, extra like and everything in between. It was a great way to escape, and a great way to run away from my anxieties for the week. Even if it was just for a few hours.
